It’s only been about 48 hours since I arrived back home from spending 4 incredibly fast-paced, interesting days in Chicago at the BlogHer ’13 Conference. I’m glad to be back home with my family, whom I missed, but it also would have been great to have a little more time seeing friends, meeting and connecting with new people, and learning from some amazing bloggers.
For those of you who are not familiar with the conference, it is a huge conference for bloggers, mostly geared towards women but also attended by many men too. There are sessions for beginning bloggers, as well as advanced bloggers, and in many different niches and genres. It’s basically a giant melting pot of bloggers. They move the conference each year and this time it was in Chicago.
BlogHer is known for having interesting speakers and a few surprises up it’s sleeves. Last year, BlogHer was able to get President Barack Obama to record a special video message just for the conference attendees. This year, Queen Latifah was present, as well as Sheryl Sandberg, Randi Zuckerberg, and television and film producer and writer, Gale Anne Hurd. Powerful women are often present at the conference, both speaking and attending.
Brands are also a big part of the BlogHer conference. Many brands see the conference as an opportunity to connect with bloggers through sponsoring the conference and/or being part of the Expo Hall. I spent a few hours in the Expo Hall talking with representatives of a wide variety of brands and learning about new products and services they offer. I also interviewed Dr. Travis Stork of The Doctors while in the Expo Hall at the Simply Saline booth, as I mentioned in my last post. I look forward to sharing that interview with you as soon as possible.
(Go ahead and laugh at the height difference. I’m just under 5′ and he’s 6’4″. All I could think was “I’m so glad my husband is not this tall!”, LOL! Although my dear husband is just over 6′, so he’s almost that tall.)
My favorite part of attending BlogHer, however, was spending time with other bloggers and getting to know them better. It was important to me this year to make time to sit down and just spend time listening and talking with several different people. Even if it meant staying up until the wee hours of the night/morning in order to do so. Of course, cutting loose and dancing at one of the official parties on the last night of the conference was a blast too and a much needed way to wind down from the hectic pace of the previous few days. Plus, dancing is great exercise!
As I’ve mentioned in my previous posts, my attendance at BlogHer was made possible by Nutrisystem and I am very grateful for the opportunity to attend and to represent them while in Chicago. I hope the bloggers who asked me about Nutrisystem will follow up and discover for themselves the benefits of being on the Nutrisystem weight loss plan. It has changed my life dramatically and I’m living proof of how much difference a year can make. I only wish I’d started sooner! Thanks again, Nutrisystem!
Nutrisystem’s #FuelABetterYou Sweepstakes is going on now and you can enter for your chance to win 28 days of Nutrisystem + $500 cash! Cool, huh? See the rules and enter at http://www.bitly.com/fuelabetteryou today!
