Winter
Birthday Party Ideas
Planning a birthday party for my
daughter, who was born at the beginning of the blustery month of March, has
presented quite a challenge over the years. We never know what the weather will
be like on her birthday. Some years it has snowed heavily, and others have been
almost warm enough for short sleeves and shorts. My daughter used to be a little
jealous over her brother's birthday, which falls in early September, because he
has had several fun outdoor parties. So we have had to come up with some clever
ideas to make her birthday just as fun.
A few years ago my daughter wanted a Hula Party. Since we couldn’t hold it outside, we created an indoor "Hawaiian Paradise" with fake tiki poles and flowery print decorations from a local party supply shop. Everyone wore Hawaiian shirts and shorts to the party. The kids got grass skirts and leis to wear too. The kids played limbo, and danced to hula music. We had Hawaiian punch and a cake to match the theme. It was bitterly cold outside but inside it was very tropical!
The one party that my daughter had
always wished for was a swim party. We had completely dismissed the idea, of
course, because of the time of year. Then we found out that a local hotel offers
rental of their indoor pool for parties, along with a party room for the cake
and presents. For a very reasonable price, we were able to have the party room
and heated pool all to ourselves for two hours. The kids were thrilled with the
opportunity to swim in March! If your winter baby wants a pool party, call some
local hotels to see what they offer.
Other fun winter birthday
parties we have done include painting at a paint-it-yourself pottery shop, a sleepover
with fun activities and movies, and my favorite, a "Glamour Girl party" at a
local hair salon. The girls all dressed up, and had their hair styled, and
fingernails painted by the stylist. We only had to pay a few dollars per party
guest and the girls still talk about it years later. Boys with winter birthdays
might enjoy having a bowling party, an arcade party, or a laser tag
party.
Take a look online at all the wonderful party plans offered
by your local family-oriented restaurants, playplaces, and you are sure to find
an idea that will thrill your winter baby. With a little creativity, winter
birthdays can be just as exciting and memorable as any other time of the
year!
